Exclusive: ‘He will start’ – Paul Robinson makes claim for Leeds clash v Reading

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson is certain that Patrick Bamford will start for Leeds against Reading on Saturday.

Jean-Kevin Augustin signed for Leeds towards the end of the January window but is still waiting for his first start for the club.

He wasn’t included in the squad for the first two games after he signed but has come off the bench in the last three matches.

Bamford has only scored two goals in his last nine games, with both coming in the 3-2 win against Millwall.

However, talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson is convinced that Augustin is going to have to wait longer for his first start.

“Patrick Bamford had one of his better games of the season against Bristol City. He will start the game against Reading.

“He missed a great chance to score that he should have been scoring but there’s no reason to change him. I think he played well on Saturday. His work rate, his effort with his back to goal, it’s all there – it’s just his end product that’s lacking.

“Augustin doesn’t look match fit to me yet so there’s no reason for Bielsa to change anything up.”

Some Leeds fans might not be too happy with this but it would be more of a surprise if Augustin was named in the starting XI.

Bielsa doesn’t play with two up front so it’s one or the other and we don’t think it’s Augustin’s time yet.

The new striker has started to show glimpses of what he’s capable of and came close to his first goal against Bristol City.

However, he’s going to have to carry on looking for that from the bench for now.
