‘Excellent news’, ‘Wow’ – These Leeds fans buzzing after major official club update

Leeds United made good on a communications gaffe earlier this week that left season ticket holders fuming.

With fans returning to stadiums (although not Elland Road yet), Leeds had said, “An allocation of tickets will be reserved for 2020/21 Members for each home league fixture where fans can return at a reduced capacity. The size of the allocation will be dependent on the capacity available.”

That left the majority of season ticket holders – over 20,000 of them – fuming at the thought of members getting into games before them.

Only 2,000 (Tier 2) or 4,000 fans (Tier 1) are allowed into football stadiums under current rules.

However, in a U-turn on Wednesday, Angus Kinnear said that no members would be given tickets until all season ticket holders that wanted to go to games had been given priority.

This was repeated in a tweet that went out on the official Leeds Twitter account, along with the news that 20/21 season ticket credits will roll over to the 21/211 season.

That means that if you only get to five games this season, you’ll only have to pay for five matches next season to top up your credit for the whole season.

This is excellent news for season ticket holders but we do think that Leeds could look at how they communicate things.

The board is running the club brilliantly but the comms occasionally let them down.

If this had gone out at the same time as the statement on members, Leeds United could have avoided any angst from season ticket holders.

And it does seem that this is a bit of a U-turn after the backlash from season ticket holders. It sounds very different to what was originally promised to members.

Regardless, what’s important is that Leeds have ended up doing the right thing – as usual, to be fair. Fans can’t accuse them of not listening and acting.
