Ever-present Leeds star reveals C’Ship club he turned down to move to Elland Road

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has revealed that he turned down a move to Middlesbrough in favour of a switch to Elland Road.

The Polish international didn’t enjoy the best of starts to life in West Yorkshire and was even sent out on loan after his initial struggle.

Marcelo Bielsa has transformed him though and he currently holds the most consecutive starts record for Leeds a couple of years later.

It nearly didn’t happen though, with Klich admitting he had accepted a move to Boro before his agent intervened with Leeds’ interest.

“I’ve got an offer from Middlesbrough because Victor was in Middlesbrough,” he said in a Q&A.

“I said yeah, we can consider it and then he called me that the plan had changed and I got an offer from Leeds United so I was more happy because obviously Middlesbrough was Premier League but you knew they were going down and Leeds is a bigger club.”

It will have been a big move for Leeds at the time given that Boro were in the top-flight, but it appears to have been the right switch for the Pole too.

Klich has a great record against Jonathan Woodgate’s men, scoring three times against them this season helping the Whites to six points against a side that we don’t have the best recent record against.
