EFL confirm outcome of latest general meeting, massive boost for Leeds United
The EFL has confirmed the outcome of their Extraordinary General Meeting on Tuesday, and it’s great news for Leeds United.
It has been agreed that should the season be curtailed once again, for whatever reason, that the final standings will be decided by a points-per-game method.
As well as that, all 71 clubs in the Football League agreed that promotion and relegation will stand with the play-offs also set to be completed.
That is great news for Leeds, who would be promoted should the season come to a pause yet again in the next couple of months.
Many Championship clubs have disagreed with the EFL’s decision to bring back the second-tier in less than two weeks, with the Whites not one of those.
EFL Chairman Rick Parry commented on the outcome, admitting it was always a priority to bring football back.
“Whilst it has always remained the Board’s position to play the remainder of the season where possible, the decision reached at today’s meeting follows a full and considered consultation period with our member clubs,” he said.
At every opportunity that Leeds players have been given to speak out, each and every one of them has admitted that they want to seal promotion on the pitch.
They will be given the chance to do that once their season resumes against Cardiff a week on Sunday.
We all want to see promotion secured the right way, but this latest announcement gives everyone peace of mind that it would still happen even if football isn’t possible.
