‘Don’t you dare’, ‘Why bother?’ – Many Leeds fans react on Twitter to latest EFL statement

Leeds United fans have hit out at the EFL for their latest statement on the impact the coronavirus pandemic is having on football.

After the decision was taken to cancel seasons below the National League North and South, there is an increasing concern among Leeds supporters about the cancellation rising all the way up the pyramid to the Championship.

Before the 2019/20 season was suspended earlier this month, the Whites had been on a roll and were sitting top of the Championship table, seven points clear of third place.

If the season was to be made null and void, then all that hard work would have been for nothing and Leeds’ long wait to return to the top-flight could be forced to go on for at least another year.

Supporters are anxiously waiting for updates on the matter and the EFL delivered a new statement on Friday.

While there wasn’t much information in it, the EFL warned that “difficult decisions will have to be taken” while the league’s original return date of April 30 has been scrapped.

Leeds supporters are, naturally, concerned.

Some are unhappy with the lack of information in this update while others have urged the EFL to avoid scrapping the season or to simply hand a promotion to the Yorkshire club.
