David Seaman: Bamford must be disappointed Kane scored after replacing him
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford became an England international against Andorra at the weekend, starting the World Cup qualifiers.
The 28-year-old drew bank during the 66 minutes he spent on the pitch, but the Three Lions scored thrice just after he came off, with Harry Kane scoring from the spot.
The England skipper replaced Bamford, bagging his goal after six minutes on the pitch, and former Leeds star David Seaman believes the Whites striker could have been disappointed with his inability to find the back of the net.
The ex goalkeeper said on Seaman Says Podcast: “It was great to see Bamford playing, he’s been knocking on that door for a long time, but he must have been a bit disappointed when as soon as he went off his sub scored.
“Alright, his sub was Harry Kane, so that’s a bit different, but he had a couple of chances as well didn’t he? But it’s his first England cap, on his birthday, I’m sure it was a special day for him.”
Perhaps
Bamford would have loved to mark his birthday and Three Lions debut with a goal, and like every other hungry striker, he would not have been pleased with spending more than an hour on the pitch against such opposition without nothing to show for it.
Andorra conceded four times, and the Leeds ace would have fancied his chances prior to the beginning of the game.
Nevertheless, the goals would always come, and there will hopefully be a next time for the striker.
A goal on his international debut would have given him all the confidence in the world and boosted their morale ahead of the return to Premier League action.
Nevertheless, Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate will continue to keep an eye on Bamford, and should he impress in the coming games for the Elland Road outfit, he is likely to be called up for the next international games.
The Whites number 9 would most likely be feeling that he missed an opportunity to prove himself at such a level, but he has to quickly move on and start delivering the goods at club level as that is the next thing that matters at the moment.
