David Norris shares what he’s been told about Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford

David Norris is thrilled by the news that Patrick Bamford signed a new contract at Leeds United ahead of the end of the summer transfer window.

Leeds announced Bamford’s new five-year deal on their official club website on August 19.

It cemented the striker’s future to Elland Road for a long time and ex-Leeds player Norris feels it staved off last-ditch interest from big-money clubs at the end of the summer.

“Bamford signing a new contract is massive,” Norris told This is Futbol. “I’m sure there would have been a little bit of panic because, as it gets towards the end of the window, big clubs panic and chuck some dough at whoever is doing well. Some teams lose their players at the very last minute.

“I’ve heard he is settled in the area and quite happy there. He has made it into the England squad, is enjoying his football and playing regularly.

“They love him at Leeds and he is a hero there now. It’s a relief for them and makes sense. At least it gives them better peace of mind that he doesn’t want to go anywhere else.”

England debut incoming?

Bamford’s incredible form at Leeds over the last year has rightly put him in the England squad for this current international break.

While the ex-Chelsea striker was an unused substitute against Hungary earlier this week, it’s very likely that he’ll get a debut cap or maybe even start for the Three Lions when they play Andorra on Sunday.

Gareth Southgate’s side face Poland on Wednesday so it makes sense for the England manager to rest his key players and see what players like Bamford can do against Andorra this weekend.

It should be a perfect opportunity for Bamford to not only get a first cap but to maybe even get his first international goal.

Bamford has a goal and an assist in each of his last two Premier League appearances for Leeds so he’s in good form and we’d definitely back him to score against one of European football’s lowest-ranked nations.

Do us proud, Pat.
