Benoit Delaval aware of Jesse Marsch allegations of overtraining at Leeds United – The Athletic
It was a shock this month when Jesse Marsch openly came out and insisted that Leeds United were overtrained by Marcelo Bielsa.
The American has started to welcome back players from injuries, and it looks as though a change in the regime has helped in that department.
Bielsa’s right-hand man, Benoit Delaval has spoken to The Athletic and is said to be aware of what has been said by Marsch.

Conducting the interview, Daniel Taylor shared that a war of words is not to be expected from our former management team.
“Before we go any further, we should probably make it clear that Delaval has no appetite to respond to the allegations from Jesse Marsch, the new Leeds manager, that Bielsa was guilty of over-working and over-training the players,” he wrote.
“Delaval is aware of what’s been said, and it would be fair to assume he did not expect it. However, he has taken the view there is nothing to be gained from becoming engaged in a war of words with Marsch here. It is not Delaval’s style.”

Shock.
Marsch is probably right, but there is a lot to learn about coming out and saying things like that to certain outlets.
It can easily be put into a different context, and that is what happened – leading to some fans getting the wrong idea.
Bielsa’s methods are unique, everyone knows that and it certainly caught up with this squad in the end given how many muscular injuries there have been.
That doesn’t mean they won’t happen under Marsch either though, just look at Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts.
Delaval was clearly shocked, but he knows in this business that you should most likely expect anything.
One thing he will know is that the Leeds fans will hold Bielsa and his team very close to their hearts for many more years to come.
But, at some stage, you have to move on, and hopefully, Marsch learns what is smart and what isn’t in the months to come.
