Aston Villa midfielder will miss clash v Leeds after Dean Smith decision – reliable journo
Aston Villa midfielder Henri Lansbury will miss Friday night’s meeting with Leeds United in the West Midlands.
Express & Star journalist Matt Maher has reported on his personal Twitter account that Villa have submitted their 25-man squad list for the Premier League and Lansbury, 30, is not included, which means he won’t be able to play Leeds on Friday nor any other team until the registration window re-opens in January.
Dean Smith has named his squad for the Premier League season but there’s no real surprise that Lansbury has been omitted as the former Arsenal midfielder has not been used at all in the Premier League by the Villa manager.
Lansbury has, however, played in all three of Villa’s Carabao Cup matches this season but clearly the 30-year-old didn’t do enough to impress Smith enough to get named in the Premier League squad.
It will be an interesting showdown between Aston Villa and Leeds this weekend.
Both have recently been Championship clubs and both have spent a lot of money since winning promotion.
Both sides have also started the season well with Villa winning four out of four and Leeds winning seven points from their first five fixtures.
Jack Grealish, Ross Barkley, John McGinn and Ollie Watkins have all been in top form for Villa so it will be a huge task for Leeds to try and halt that momentum when they have injury issues of their own.
Diego Llorente and Liam Cooper could both miss out while Kalvin Phillips will also be unavailable for the Whites.
It will take a lot of effort but we think that Leeds could still beat Smith’s men.
In other Leeds United news, this player is set to take up a coaching role at Thorp Arch.
