‘Are they intentionally that thick?’ – Some Leeds fans threaten ‘Boycott’ over journo BT update
Leeds United fans are threatening to boycott watching their side’s clash against Crystal Palace next weekend after it was selected for BT Sport Box Office.
LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross relayed the update via his personal Twitter account on Thursday, which means that fans will have to pay £14.95 if they want to watch Marcelo Bielsa’s side play at Selhurst Park next Saturday.
The Premier League’s pay-per-view scheme has attracted a lot of criticism in recent weeks – and rightly so.
While we don’t mind paying to watch our team play, there’s no way that £14.95 per-match can be justified when so many people already pay a lot of money for regular Sky Sports and BT Sport subscriptions.
It’ll be the second time that Leeds will be on PPV but next weekend’s round of fixtures will see Aston Villa, Fulham and West Brom feature on Box Office for the fourth time in a row.
It’s downright unfair and downright idiotic that Premier League clubs haven’t performed a U-turn on this yet or at least agreed to reduce the price.
And Leeds fans are continuing to take a stand against the Premier League’s greed by saying they will refuse to pay to watch the clash with Crystal Palace.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
That last tweet really sums it up, doesn’t it?
After all the criticism and poor viewing figures, they’re pushing forward with the same price.
If the price was lowered to £5, you can guarantee that enough people will pay for it to make up the difference of those not watching the games at £14.95.
In other Leeds United news, Kalvin Phillips has said when he might be able to play again.
