Jamie Carragher can’t believe what he saw after Leeds United incident vs West Ham – ‘Wow’

Anthony Taylor left everybody scratching their heads within minutes as Leeds United took on West Ham on the final day of the Premier League season.

It was a great start for the travelling Whites, with Brenden Aaronson through on goal within two minutes, before he was bundled over by Tomas Soucek outside of the box.

Given the competence of Premier League referees, Taylor ignored it.

Jamie Carragher couldn’t believe it, but it’s just one of many decisions that have left fans gobsmacked at the clear errors that continue to happen at the top level.

Leeds were somewhat calm about it, though, given they started at the London Stadium with the knowledge they’re safe for another year.

Premier League referees continue to disappoint

Daniel Farke wasn’t too impressed on the sideline, and that reaction was replicated by nearly every single one of those watching along on the final day.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Football coverage, Carragher could not believe the early decisions against the Whites on the road.

“I’m not sure how he hasn’t given a free-kick there, it’s a blatant free kick,” he started.

“If West Ham fans weren’t nervous before kick-off, wow.”

It was a nervy start from the home side, with Lukas Nmecha also missing a golden opportunity from close range, before they eventually came into it slightly.

Brenden Aaronson shows Crysencio Summerville what he could have had

Aaronson is a polarising figure at Elland Road, but he has certainly had some sensational moments this season in white.

That period, either side of the New Year, will be remembered fondly for his goals against Sunderland, Newcastle and Manchester United.

But, for all of those, there is always a moment where he baffles you.

Take this incident for example, looking like he was through on goal, Aaronson stopped and turned inside, with Soucek of all people getting back to make the clear foul.

Yes, Taylor should have blown up, but the American should never have given them the opportunity and at least taken a shot at goal.

Leeds took a dig at Crysencio Summerville before the game, and should he get relegated, he will look at some of the success that players like Aaronson have had with envy.
