49ers try save face with PSR claim made after Leeds United transfer failures
Leeds United supporters were less than impressed with the way the Whites handled the latter stages of the summer transfer window.
Leeds United face Fulham this Saturday, with Premier League football finally returning after what has felt like a significantly longer international break than usual.
The reason behind that was Leeds’ failed end to the transfer window, leaving nothing but concern lingering over Elland Road as a result.
James Justin was the final addition for the Whites on 25 August, with the 49ers Enterprises eventually trying to make sense of the situation, to what was a riled-up Leeds support.

This story includes exclusive comment from football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley.
Where did Rodrigo Muniz money go for Leeds United?
Despite Daniel Farke’s demands for attacking reinforcements at Leeds, the 49ers failed to deliver towards the end of the window.
Their reasoning? PSR, allegedly.
However, in the weeks building up to the deadline, the Whites had launched bids for Igor Paixao and Rodrigo Muniz, only for that money to never resurface again, and finance expert Dan Plumley believes the PSR claim is nothing but an attempt to save face.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “I think, yeah, it’s probably a little bit more of a reaction to the defeat against Sheffield Wednesday and kind of pouring cold water on that to an extent, because we won’t know fully where they’re at until we kind of see it a year or so down the line.
Summer spend from promoted clubs
- Sunderland – £162m
- Burnley – £111m
- Leeds – £98m
“But you look at the losses, pre-tax losses of £60million in 2024, we know that PSR is a challenge for newly promoted clubs because of the parameters that they’re working under.
“There’s nothing clear-cut at the minute from the outside looking in that would suggest that they are maxed out against PSR. And of course, their revenue is going to go up in the Premier League.
“It was up and around £190m when they were last in there, dropped to around £120m in the Championship, but it’ll go back up to £180m.”

Leeds failure to generate funds hindered them this summer
Whether or not PSR was a factor in their inability to sign another forward remains to be seen, but their lack of success when it came to offloading players certainly was.
Largie Ramazani joined Valencia on loan, while several other fringe players were afforded temporary exits from Elland Road.
Compared to Sunderland, who raked in around £50million from player sales, that is where the major discrepancy is.
With four points from three games, it’s been a decent start for Leeds, but they need to ensure that they are in a position to spend come January if their league position requires it.
