Everything that could have gone wrong for Leeds United went wrong at Selhurst Park this afternoon.

Leeds had what looked like a perfectly good Patrick Bamford goal chalked off by VAR, which would have brought them level at 1-1.

Instead, Palace scored again before Bamford got his name on the scoresheet.

The third Palace goal was a freak but Illan Meslier was at fault and he was hammered by Leeds fans on Twitter.

Wilfried Zaha played a brilliant ball through for Patrick Van Aanholt to run onto.

He played a quick cross and it clipped off Helder Costa and into the goal at a very acute angle, beating Meslier at his near post.

Meslier was in the wrong position and really slow to react to what was going on.

One fan called for him to be dropped and another said he should be given a run in the Under-23s.

The trouble is, there are plenty of fans who don’t want Kiko Casilla back in goal after he was banned for racist abuse last season – and Leeds don’t have anyone else.

One fan said Leeds should have bought a keeper in January and that’s the view of MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson too.

We rate Meslier. He was to blame for the third goal today and he has made other mistakes but he’s also saved Leeds on a number of occasions, not least in the game against Aston Villa.

We think he needs support and don’t think he needs dropping (although Leeds are shipping way too many goals).

Some of these Leeds fans disagree with us…
