Leeds United fans have been patient. Very patient.

Not just in getting back to the Premier League. Not just this past season, when they had to wait a year from the start of the campaign for promotion to be secured.

They’ve also had to be very patient for big deals to be announced by their club.

They’ve had to be patient over a new deal for Marcelo Bielsa.

And they’ve had to be very patient over new first-team transfers.

That wait finally came to an end today after Leeds announced the club-record signing of Valencia striker Rodrigo.

The first hint that today was the day came from prominent Spanish journalist Guillem Balague early on.

He said that last-minute “hiccups” had been resolved and that the Valencia striker would become a Leeds player on Saturday.

That came to pass at 9am on Saturday morning when it was officially announced and Leeds fans hit meltdown.

Leeds fans were absolutely thrilled with the news after getting jitters that something was going wrong with the deal after the player completed his medical last week.

Rodrigo suffered from knee problems last season and missed out on the last few games of the season.

He didn’t play in Valencia’s pre-season friendly, although that seems to have had more to do with this deal than any lingering injury problems.

The next questions will be how fit is the player and will he be able to play any part in the Premier League opener against Liverpool?

That’s for another day, though. Today, these fans are just thrilled that the player has signed…
