Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi is set to return to first-team training on Monday.

The Swiss enforcer has been missing since the penultimate game of last season against Derby County where he tore his ACL.

Surgery and a new contract have followed at Elland Road, but he is now finally set to return to the fold with three months of the season remaining.

Phil Hay relayed the news on his personal Twitter account on Friday afternoon, with Berardi on the verge of his return this week.

The Athletic journalist shared that the defender will feature for the under-23s first before becoming available in the Premier League.

Berardi has completed over 1000 minutes for the Whites in each season since he signed, and he will be relishing the chance to return this month.

The no-nonsense enforcer started against Arsenal in the FA Cup last season and dominated the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, and we wouldn’t wish facing him on anyone – especially with his desire to return sure to be through the roof.

Many Leeds fans have reacted to the news on Friday, and it is clear that they are delighted with the update on the cult hero.

The majority are awestruck at the thought of Berardi coming up against the best of the Premier League, who aren’t ready for the physical test.
