Leeds United fans have reacted with differing opinions to the news that their Premier League clash with Southampton could get postponed next week.
Writing on The Athletic website, Phil Hay reports that “Leeds are open to the idea of postponing” the Elland Road fixture, which is currently due to kick off at 6pm next Wednesday.
The FA and Premier League are reportedly in talks over pushing Leeds versus the Saints back until a later date so that the south coast club can fulfil their FA Cup meeting with Shrewsbury, which was called off at the weekend due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the League One club.
Leeds fans, as a whole, do not seem to know what to make of the news.
One supporter has dubbed it as a “joke” while another claims there’s a “major risk” surrounding the FA Cup games due to the differing quality of testing at lower league clubs.
However, there are some Leeds fans who are open to the game being postponed as it would benefit them to wait until later in the season to play high-flying Southampton.
Marcelo Bielsa is without a couple of first-teams players at the moment so the more fixtures get pushed back, the more likely the Whites boss is to have a fully fit squad.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
This is a joke why should we be open to the idea not a chance would they treat us the same way by postponing games etc should straight up refuse to postpone it and play the game look at mourinho kicking off with all the postponed fixtures as it is @andrearadri @LUFC

It’s hard to be taken seriously since we got knocked out BUT isn’t the FA Cup the very reason Elite Sports could be cancelled. The strict guidelines followed by the premier league cannot be carried out at lower level leagues? Has to be a major risk.

I guarantee that if it was our cup game that needed to be arranged they wouldn't be re-arranging but making us play it the next day or something.

Give us Che Adams & you can play the Shrews no problem

Wouldn't be such a bad thing. Feels like we need regroup at the moment, get injured players fit again and focus in a maximum return from Brighton and Newcastle

Let’s face it, this isn’t about Leeds or about Southampton or even about Shrewsbury. It’s about the FA Cup as a whole.
Firstly, we hope that everyone at Shrewsbury is ok and isn’t affected by COVID-19 in any way. Secondly, we don’t want to see them getting kicked out of the FA Cup due to an outbreak.
It happened to Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup earlier this season as the EFL failed to postpone fixtures and simply booted out teams who couldn’t fulfil fixtures.
If Leeds agree to postpone the fixture, it will be a move of sporting integrity by the Whites.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this French ball-playing defender who scouts are fighting to watch.
