Gaetano Berardi has been a real unsung hero for Leeds United this season.

He’s played brilliantly when called upon, making 17 appearances and 11 starts this season.

His contract’s up on June 30 but Victor Orta is confident that he will stick around and help Leeds to promotion – if needed.

Berardi is the only first-team player who hasn’t been offered a new contract by Leeds yet but Orta is happy that an extension can be worked out with the combative player.

There are plenty of Leeds fans who want to see the club go further and give him a contract that would take him into the Premier League if promoted.

We number ourselves among them and we think the two parties could be waiting to see where Leeds land next season before making a commitment.

We can’t believe Berardi wouldn’t fancy a season in the Premier League, even if a return to Italy is what his end career looks like.

As for Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa, Berardi has easily done enough this season to be a Premier League squad player.

You can see from these reactions on Twitter how much the Leeds fans value him…
