Gaetano Berardi has been out for a long time but the sight of him nearing full fitness has seen Leeds United fans take to Twitter in their droves.

The long-serving Leeds full-back has been out of action since July 17 after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear against Derby County in the penultimate game of the Whites’ glorious Championship-winning campaign.

Despite his contract expiring Berardi was allowed to remain at Thorp Arch to complete his rehabilitation and he was then rewarded with a new one-year deal in October.

Marcelo Bielsa was asked about Berardi in his pre-Arsenal press conference and said “from now onwards he will take the necessary steps to start competing again” [Leeds Live].

It was a tweet from his former translator, Salim Lamrani, that has set pulses racing online.

In a video clip captioned ‘Gateano “The Lion” Berardi is back’ posted on Lamrani’s personal Twitter account the popular Whites figure can be seen being put through his paces at Thorp Arch.

Berardi is one of the most popular players among Leeds fans and is the longest-serving member of the squad having joined all the way back in 2014.

He has been there for the hard times as the Whites battled with inconsistency in the Championship for years before Bielsa set us straight and it is great to see that he may finally get his Premier League chance after so many years targeting it.

We cannot wait to see Berardi back in a white shirt and neither than can these Leeds fans below as we pick out the best reactions to his return to training…
