Leeds United fans have been banging the drum for academy defender Charlie Cresswell due to his impressive performances this season.

Cresswell, 17, has played for both the Under-18s and Under-23s this season and although he is yet to be seen in Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad, those who have seen the young defender play know that he is one to watch in the future.

Here on MOT Leeds News, we wrote about how Cresswell is showing that he could be captain material for the Whites in the future due to how good his on-field leadership skills are and that he is bound to be rising up the pecking order at Elland Road.

The Preston-born centre-back, who is the son of former Leeds striker Richard, played a key role in helping the Under-18s reach the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup and has deservedly been promoted into Carlos Corberan’s Under-23s squad.

Bielsa has already used some of the club’s younger centre-backs this season with Oliver Casey and Pascal Struijk being handed debuts in the Championship.

Should Cresswell be the next young centre-back who Bielsa hands a call-up into his first-team?

Based on what these Leeds fans have said, the general feeling is that he should be, with one supporter dubbing Cresswell as having the potential to be better than Ben White.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

We really do hope that Cresswell can become the next success story of Leeds’ famous academy.

In other Leeds United news, this Barcelona star has supported criticism of Bielsa.
