‘Ridiculous’ – Exclusive: Paul Robinson slams solution to Coronavirus issue and Leeds promotion

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that it’s “ridiculous” that people are having a conversation about whether Leeds should be handed promotion amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

All football has been suspended until April 3 and there’s been intense speculation about what would happen if the ban lasted into the summer.

However, for Robinson, football is secondary to people’s health, although he said he hoped the rest of the Championship fixtures would be played.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “That’s ridiculous, you just can’t have that conversation. You don’t know what’s going to happen.

“In my own opinion, they should cancel the Euros and play out the leagues through June and July, get them finished as soon as possible.

“The only way you can do it is to put it back. The fact that people are even talking about this now though… people’s lives are at risk and that’s the most important thing. Football is secondary.

“I honestly couldn’t care less if the league was just cancelled. If it’s the best thing for people’s health then so be it.

“I’d like it to be put back and played if possible but if it’s cancelled because that’s the best thing to do, so be it.”

Robinson is a big Leeds fan but he’s taking a very pragmatic approach to events.

The EFL released a statement today saying that people needed to keep cool heads about the unfolding situation.

They didn’t say anything concrete about what might happen to the league but without playing the remaining fixtures, there’s no perfect solution.
