Red Bull score own-goal at Leeds United already after new developments

Dan Plumley has insisted that Red Bull may have scored an accidental own-goal by keeping red on the home shirt of Leeds United this season.

The football finance expert admitted that the drinks giant has guidelines that allow for their sponsor to be in different colours, but that wasn’t used at Elland Road.

The new home kit for the 2024/25 season has caused a stir after Red Bull made their leap into English football with a record-breaking deal at Leeds [LWOS].

“Potentially, yes,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News when asked if it was a potential own-goal.

“It is something that Red Bull have to consider with Leeds United and that’s where you look at this wider thing of outside investment that has to be aware of the culture of English football.

Leeds, in particular, with the colour red is one that you have to tread very carefully on, as we’ve seen with other sponsors in the past, Red32 as an example.

There is that PR exercise to monitor there, but there are some instances as well with Red Bull where their brand guidelines allow for it not to be red, we know it is but there are other instances where they’ve used that logo with different colours.

You do have to be careful with the culture of English and specifically knowing the roots and history of the club you’re buying into.”

Red Bull make their move at Leeds United

As comical as it sounds, something as simple as red on the home shirt of Leeds is something that should be avoided at all costs.

Although the kit itself doesn’t look too bad and sales may not be affected by this move, Red Bull could have made life much easier for themselves after such a positive introduction.

In other Leeds news, the Whites could look at Oliver Skipp transfer after Glen Kamara’s impending exit.
