The transfer window is likely to look very different when it does open and it looks like Leeds United could be relying on loan deals again for next season.
Talking on the latest episode of his podcast, Athletic journalist Phil Hay delivered a significant summer transfer update for Leeds.
Hay said, “You will see plenty of loans at Leeds this summer because they are on the hook for some fairly substantial permanent deals.”
It’s a critical window for Leeds as it looks like Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa will be planning for life in the Premier League.
However, with the financial crisis caused by the Coronavirus, clubs are set to be more circumspect and player values could plummet.
There are many Leeds fans who will be hoping for a major spend from Leeds in addition to what they’ve committed to already.
But that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen and you can understand why.
That’s a huge financial commitment already – £46m.
They might not seem like new transfers to Leeds fans but they’re players that Marcelo Bielsa has pinpointed as the players he wants in the top-flight.
Getting the loan deals right on top will be absolutely key for Leeds but it should be easier to attract top quality players in the top-flight.
Options to buy could lead to these players joining on permanent deals if they work out at Elland Road.
And with such uncertainty in the transfer market, it could be that Leeds will be able to bag a higher quality of player on a loan deal.
