White continues to impress

Ben White put in another heroic performance against Stoke on Saturday, helping his side to keep another clean sheet and maintain their record as the best defensive side in the Championship.

Leeds have only conceded two goals in five games and they haven’t been behind in a game yet this season.

That’s a pretty amazing stat and Brighton loanee White has to take a lot of the credit.

He’s outshone more experienced centre-back Liam Cooper this season and it’s incredible to think that he hadn’t played above League One before joining Leeds over the summer.

White boasted a 90% pass accuracy on Saturday (and that’s no one-off – according to WyScout he’s on a stunning 91.5% pass success rate for the season), made the joint-most ball recoveries (11), won the most tackles (five), and made the most headed clearances and the most interceptions.

Spotting a player like White is a huge success for the Leeds scouting system, and for Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa.

He’s a different player to Pontus Jansson but he fits the Bielsa system much better and Leeds look a much better side with White at the back marshaling things and starting Leeds’ attacks.

There are two things Leeds fans will be desperately hoping for. Firstly, that White doesn’t suffer an injury and secondly, that Brighton don’t try and recall him in January.

Forget Helder Costa and Eddie Nketiah, White is looking like the signing of the summer for Leeds.
