View: Leeds United fans should be embarrassed by reaction to Tyler Roberts injury

Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts was hit by the crushing news that his season was over in the past 24 hours.

After pulling his hamstring against Leicester City on Saturday, the Welshman underwent successful surgery.

It was confirmed that he would miss the next three months, ruling him out until the end of May, possibly even June.

What made this worst, was the reaction of some fans.

Going through the responses on Twitter to the news breaking on the official Leeds account, was embarrassing.

“Sorry Lad, you’ve worked hard, get well soon, so we can sell you for a better price,” one fan said.

Another went down a similar route: “Can we not make it 300 months out?”

Imagine how Roberts must feel reading through these responses? Are these what our so-called real, passionate fans really are?

Of course, this isn’t all fans, but those who feel the need to pile in after this new broke are not worth the time of day.

Embarrassing.

We can’t believe some of the things we were reading.

Roberts has divided opinion during his time at Elland Road, that is for sure, but not one single player deserves this kind of treatment.

For all of this “side before self” being put around, the Welshman epitomised that by playing on despite being in what can only be seen as dreadful pain.

Yes, that didn’t help anyone but it shows how committed he was to making this work and trying to make a name for himself here.

Jesse Marsch is the new man in charge now, and if given the chance over the summer, Roberts should look to prove everyone wrong.

These types of fans are not welcome at Elland Road, we’re in a dogfight right now, and we need everyone on one side – bring it on.
