View: Illan Meslier showing maturity beyond his years at Leeds United

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has been one of the few players Marcelo Bielsa has been able to select for every game this season.

The 21-year-old has made over 60 appearances for the Whites already having joined the club from Lorient in 2019.

His raw ability has always shone through, even when his inexperience has cost him at times he has risen above it to overcome any error he has made.

And while his performances off the pitch have earned him plenty of praise, his demeanour off it should see him receive equal amounts of credit.

Meslier has always supported and backed his teammates on social media and most recently he even congratulated Under-18s goalkeeper Harry Christy who signed his first professional deal at the club.

Most first-team players, especially in the Premier League, wouldn’t necessarily give the time or effort to congratulate a player in the Under-18s, even more so with a player who plays in the same position as them.

But maybe this is where Meslier is unique compared to the modern footballer.

His wholehearted love for his teammates and now the club, having been at Elland Road for nearly three years, has warmed him to the Leeds United faithful and that love will only grow the longer he stays.

Many believe he has the ability to be one of the top goalkeepers in the world but the way he talks about his teammates could make you believe he would rather they went on to world-class levels.

In other Leeds United news, the race for this player is hotting up as selling club reject bid.
