Leeds United fans were hit with some brilliant news today as a report in Turkey claimed that Ezgjan Alioski will not be moving to Galatasaray in the summer.

Some fans took to Twitter to rant and rave, despite the fact there had been no official confirmation, and others called for him not to play again.

Teamtalk editor James Marshment posted the news that came from asistanaliz, which said that Alioksi is definitely not on the Galatasaray list.

It said that Alioski had plenty of suitors for his signature.

Marshment posted news from another Turkish outlet that said Alioski didn’t want to move there and risk souring his relationship with the Leeds fans.

Now, this is the sort of transfer news that we can get behind.

The anger from the fans was understandable. We don’t need to go into the history of Leeds and Galatasaray – it’s enough to say that there’s a real reason for the upset after the Alioski news broke.

Alioski has done so much for Leeds.

He’s not a natural left-back but he’s played there when needed, helped get us promoted and has been a huge part of the first season back in the Premier League.

He hasn’t always put in the level of performance we need but he’s not a defender by trade and he always gives 100%.

He’s also a great character off the pitch and his antics have brightened our lives and led to headaches from opposing stewards when he ‘rattles the tunnel’.

One Leeds fan summed it up perfectly when he said, “If it’s true that Alioski doesn’t want to sign for Galatasary because he doesn’t want to sour his relationship with us Leeds fans, I think every single fan who gave him unwarranted public/private abuse and threats needs to apologise to him. Just my thoughts though.”

It does look like Alioski is leaving, despite Marcelo Bielsa saying he would be really happy for him to stay.

But his contract’s up and he’s not going to be first-choice left-back if he stays and Leeds bring in another dedicated player for that position.

He’s 29 and his stock is high. He deserves a big contract that will set him up for life and if it’s not with Galatasaray then we can behind him and give him a proper hero’s send-off.

His last Leeds game will be at Elland Road against West Brom with fans back in attendance.

That seems fitting and we’re sure that the fans will go berzerk for Gjanni once the game is over.
