Tyler Adams relationship with Weston McKennie could help force through Leeds United transfer
Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams can play a huge role in the transfer pursuit of U.S. teammate Weston McKennie in the final week of the January transfer window.
Gianluca Di Marzio reported on Tuesday 24 January, that the Whites had made contact with Juventus for the potential signing of McKennie, with the Daily Mail reporting the Italian giants value the midfielder between £18million and £22million.
After releasing Mateusz Klich from his contract earlier this month, Jesse Marsch finds himself a little short-staffed in midfield, so a move for the 24-year-old makes complete sense.
Marsch shouldn’t have any worries about the Juventus midfielder settling into life at Elland Road, with McKennie previously detailing the special relationship he holds with Adams from his time playing with the U.S. national team through a number of age groups.
As reported by 90min [23 September], McKennie said: “One of the things, as far as me and Tyler, have learned about each other is that he does all the running and I do all the playing. No, I’m just kidding.
“But I think just us being together for as long as we have and knowing each other for so long, we’ve, I think, developed a relationship that we know each other’s tendencies, we know each other’s abilities, we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and how to cover for one another.
“Say for instance, Luca de la Torre, [who] maybe came on a little bit later into the national team, me and Tyler have been playing with him since we were 14, 15 years old.”
A potential swoop for the 41-capped U.S. international seems to tick so many boxes. The relationship with Adams, for one, the common ground with American manager Marsch, and the fact the Serie A giants have offered McKennie to a number of Premier League clubs this month. [90min, 24 January]
The Whites number 12 needs to get on the phone with his childhood teammate and play the agent in this transfer, as the transfer of McKennie could round off a brilliant month of business for Victor Orta at Elland Road.
The glaring lack of options at centre-forward have been addressed through the club-record signing of Georginio Rutter, the left-back void has been filled by Max Wober, and Adams could help to place the final piece of the jigsaw together by helping with McKennie’s transfer.
