Predicted Leeds line-up v York
Leeds fans finally get the chance to see their team in action again after the disappointment of the play-off semi-final against Derby.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men play their first pre-season friendly against York City on Wednesday night, followed by a trip to Guiseley on Thursday.
The two games in two days make it tough to predict whether Bielsa will go with a strong XI followed by a second-string on Thursday, but that’s what he did last season and that’s what we’re going with here.
Bielsa’s first line-up will be very interesting and should contain big pointers for the first game of the Championship.
Kiko Casilla and Bailey Peacock-Farrell will be battling for the gloves and if Casilla is staying we expect him to be number one.
Barry Douglas can oust Ezgjan Alioski from left-back and Ben White should get the nod to partner Liam Cooper in the centre, with Pontus Jansson now a Brentford player.
Luke Ayling should be on the right side with Kalvin Phillips playing the defensive mid role.
With Kemar Roofe up top and Patrick Bamford on the bench, we’re expecting Tyler Roberts to get the nod to play in behind. He had a terrific end to the season and we’d like to see him continue his progression under Bielsa.
Jack Harrison will be on the left with Pablo Hernandez inside, but perhaps the most exciting sight for Leeds fans will be Helder Costa in full flow on the right-wing.
It means no starting place for Mateusz Klich, Jack Clarke, Alioski or Bamford, which shows already that Leeds have more depth in their squad – apart from at centre-back, which is even lighter than last season. That’s one area we hope Leeds will strengthen before the start of the season proper.
