Nketiah to make bow v Salford

The first round of the Carabao Cup doesn’t normally throw up a must-watch fixture but that’s what Leeds fans have got on Tuesday night.

League 2 Salford should be easily beatable, even with a changed Leeds line-up, but the Man United connection, with the Class of ’92 owners, means there’s added edge to the proceedings. And, of course, it’s live on Sky Sports.

Talking in his pre-match press conference, Bielsa revealed that he knew what the game meant and that he would be taking the game “as seriously as we can”.

The line-up will change, though, and Bielsa admitted that the players on the bench on Saturday would play.

He’s stopped naming his starting line-ups – after advice from last season – but that means debuts for Illan Meslier in goal and Mateusz Bogusz, and presumably a first start for Helder Costa.

Bielsa also confirmed the news that everyone wanted to hear – that new striker Eddie Nketiah w0uld play some part after training with the squad on Sunday and Monday.

He might not start but Leeds fans will get to see him play against Salford and that will give them hope that he could make the starting XI for the Championship game against Wigan next Saturday.

Leeds are still finding goals hard to come by and Nketiah could change all of that.
