Newcastle interest in Leeds United target Ramsey a warning to Whites
Leeds United transfer target Aaron Ramsey has been attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs this month.
A January move away from Juventus is almost a guarantee now with various reports suggesting that Newcastle United are the latest side to enter the race for the Welshman [The Times].
Now the richest club in the world, any offer Leeds, who’ve been linked with Ramsey via CalcioMercato, put on the table can, and most likely will be bettered by the Magpies.
To go into a transfer battle with Newcastle would be a foolish move to make for the Leeds United board given the enormous spending power now behind the North East club.
But Marcelo Bielsa isn’t alone in feeling this way about 31-year-old Ramsey who is keen to return to England from Italy.
Everton, Wolves, Leicester and Crystal Palace are the other reported teams to be interested in the former Arsenal man but all are set for disappointment.
There are even clubs in the MLS in America that have enquired over a deal for Ramsey but they would likely lack the financial prowess to get a deal over the line.
Missing out on Ramsey wouldn’t be a disaster by any means despite the Whites’ precarious place in the Premier League. However it does mean that Victor Orta will cross the Welshman’s name off his shortlist when it comes to possible midfield signings this month.
With injured players slowly returning to fitness, Bielsa should have a more fleshed-out squad to choose from sooner rather than later which will reduce the need for reinforcements immediately.
That won’t stop the club from searching for improvements, having already signed 18-year-old Mateo Joseph Fernandez this transfer window.
The Spaniard though will begin his Leeds career in the Under-23s before he gets any kind of first-team chance.
