Much has been made of Leeds United and their incoming transfer business this summer.
The Whites have already pulled off big money moves for Rodrigo and Robin Koch, and could be in line to land another if they can get a deal over the line for Udinese talent Rodrigo De Paul.
But less has been said about potential outgoings at Elland Road.
According to The Times, however, Derby County are plotting a move for Wales international Tyler Roberts.
The Rams are understood to be monitoring the 21-year-old’s situation, and are hopeful of luring him away from Elland Road now that the Whites have completed the signing of Rodrigo from Valencia.
But Marcelo Bielsa must know that selling Roberts would be a poor decision.
The Argentine himself has praised the forward for his attacking qualities in recent times, and his stats back up those claims.
Roberts actually had a shot accuracy that was almost 10% higher than Patrick Bamford’s last season, while he also made more than twice as many dribbles and had a higher cross accuracy rate, as per Wyscout.
And who could forget his first strike in the 4-0 win over Hull City last season?
Roberts picks up the ball in his own half and is immediately looking to get his head down and drive into space with the ball.
His directness and pace are refreshing, as is his intent.
He carries his team forward a long way before releasing a perfectly weighted pass into the circled space above.
This spreads the play and further stretches a Hull backline that is already creaking.
Rather than resting on his laurels, however, Roberts continues his run and shows great desire and willing to get himself into the penalty area.
By the time the ball comes back across the box he is ready and waiting, and he makes sure he is the man to get on the end of the pass.
His finish is powerful and composed, and the goal itself is one of the best we scored all of last season.
Roberts started it, he finished it, and he looked superb in between too.
It’s easy to see why Derby want him, but equally, those same qualities – plus the fact that he is still so young – are the exact reason why Leeds must hang onto him this summer.
