MOT View: Seaman praise for Leeds youngster could prove shrewd addition on horizon
David Seaman has been impressed with the effect that goalkeeper Illan Meslier has had on Leeds United this season.
The young Frenchman, on loan from Lorient, has replaced Kiko Casilla during the start of his ban for racism and has kept a couple of two clean sheets.
It was revealed by the Athletic that Leeds have the option to make his loan move permanent for only £5million in the summer – something which is looking more of a good investment with each passing game.
Seaman claimed it was perfect for Meslier to debut against Arsenal and he definitely took that opportunity with both hands.
“He’s very young. I was at the Arsenal game,” he told LeedsLive.
“I don’t go to many games, but obviously Leeds playing at Arsenal was perfect so I was there. I was impressed with him. He looks confident, which for someone so young was good to see.”
The glowing praise from Seaman, a keeper who has been there and won it all in England could prove this would be a shrewd addition at Elland Road.
With Casilla’s future uncertain at Elland Road, a £5million move for a keeper that could become the first-choice stopper in West Yorkshire seems like an obvious investment.
Looking at Meslier’s debut at the Emirates Stadium and his distribution on that night proved that he fits perfectly into Marcelo Bielsa’s plans.
Using the photo as an example, Arsenal attempted to press high with four attackers but Meslier had the ability to go long and over that with passes to the likes of Jack Harrison out wide.
Seaman was impressed with his confidence, and he has continued to show that in the Championship and this would be a really shrewd move by the Whites if made this summer.
