MOT View: Preston clash proved Leeds player needs a rest, 20y/o ready and waiting
The game against Preston was the first signs that some players are in desperate need of a rest at Leeds United.
Athletic journalist Phil Hay shared that he noticed Robbie Gotts warming up before the clash, with Mateusz Klich potentially having a problem.
The way they were putting Gotts through a warm-up pre-match suggested Klich might have a problem. He found it hard to dictate today’s game,” said Hay via a Q&A session on The Athletic’s website on Boxing Day.
That showed in the game, with the Pole at fault for Preston’s goal after dwelling on possession and losing the ball when there were many passes available.
Klich is in desperate need of a rest after starting every single game, and given that it was Gotts warming up on Thursday, he could get his chance at Birmingham.
Leeds Live revealed on Sunday morning in the build-up to the game that Gotts has been joined by a number of academy stars made available for the trip to St Andrew’s.
Bryce Hosannah, Pascal Struijk, Alfie McCalmont, Leif Davis, Jordan Stevens, and Oliver Casey are all also available for the game.
Gotts is ready and waiting to step in, and Marcelo Bielsa could do himself a few favours by bringing in the youngster.
With a trip to West Brom on New Year’s Day, Leeds need their more influential players to be at the top of their game and Klich could become a weak link if forced to complete yet another 90 minutes.
Gotts is ready and waiting to come into the side, and has clearly earned the respect of Bielsa since he arrived at the club, so wouldn’t he be given that chance?
Given the number of important clashes coming up, rotation could be key, and Thursday proved that Klich is in desperate need of a little rest.
