MOT View: Perfect time for Leeds to face Blackburn with injury crisis at Ewood Park
Leeds United travel to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday knowing that they need to bounce back from the disappointing draw against Luton Town.
The Whites can open up a four-point gap to West Brom at Ewood Park, with the Baggies not playing Hull City until Sunday afternoon.
Blackburn aren’t in the best of form and have lost their last two games 2-0 against both Wigan and Barnsley away from home.
Leeds came unstuck in Lancashire last season, losing 2-1 against Blackburn, but it could be much easier this time around.
Having said that, no game in the Championship is easy, but Rovers are missing numerous players through suspension and injuries that will only make their task even harder against Marcelo Bielsa’s men.
Leeds Live have reported that Mowbray will be without seven of his key players going into the clash. Ben Brereton, Lewis Travis, Amari’i Bell, Derrick Williams, Corry Evans and Joe Rankin-Costello and Bradley Dack are all sidelined.
Darragh Lenihan also missed the defeat against Barnsley but could return to face the Whites on Saturday afternoon.
That is no small list and it is certainly set to affect Blackburn as they look to replicate last season’s victory at Ewood Park.
It won’t be plain sailing for Leeds either, who could be without Stuart Dallas and Liam Cooper. Kalvin Phillips confirmed on Thursday that the duo are yet to train with the squad this week, although they are hopeful to feature.
Blackburn’s main problem is at left-back. Elliott Bennett filled in against the Tykes, although he is mainly a right-back, as he was exploited for the first goal, not closing down a long cross into the box.
It could be a massive afternoon for Helder Costa then, who struggled against Luton. The Portuguese international didn’t complete any of his attempted dribbles according to WhoScored and must provide more of an outlet down the right on Saturday.
