Leeds United crashed to a disappointing 1-0 defeat in their Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Saturday evening.
In a game of few chances, the pitch took centre-stage at Elland Road once again as it played a major role in Anwar El Ghazi’s winner.
Opposing managers have been leaving West Yorkshire enraged recently with injured players and it appears as though the Whites have suffered this time.
Speaking after the game last night, Mateusz Klich revealed that Pascal Struijk had to be replaced as he picked up an injury in the defeat.
“Unfortunately Pascal had to come off because he was injured and I had to come back as the defensive midfielder,” he said.
This is the last thing we need.
Kalvin Phillips has been missing since the win over Crystal Palace, and there have been no words on his immediate return to fitness.
Struijk has been his replacement this season and has shined in numerous different roles in our return to the Premier League.
The 21-year-old has started 15 games during this campaign, and according to WhoScored, only Liam Cooper has completed more interceptions per game.
What makes this even worst, is that the only other player who has played in this role efficiently; Jamie Shackleton, is also currently out injured.
Klich was placed in that role against Aston Villa, but he has tried and failed to sit deep far too many times for our liking this season.
The Polish international lost the ball 11 times according to WyScout, and we can’t afford for our holding midfielder to rack up those sort of numbers in each game.
The only other option would be to welcome back Gaetano Berardi into defence, and push Diego Llorente forward, is that our last throw of the dice?
