MOT View: Major Nketiah update would solve a very big problem for Leeds

The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon has delivered a major update to Leeds United fans over Eddie Nketiah.

He claims that despite all the speculation, Arsenal are not going to recall Nketiah in January.

The Arsenal loanee has yet to start in the Championship for Leeds this season, although he was due for a run in the side starting with the game against QPR before he picked up an injury in training the day before.

Marcelo Bielsa has made it very clear that Nketiah has a big part to play at Leeds. Ahead of the game against Middlesbrough, which saw the striker return from injury, Bielsa said that he hoped Nketiah would stay for the rest of this season and for the 20/21 campaign.

Nketiah has come on in the closing stages for the games against Middlesbrough and Hull without scoring.

He also played for the Under-23s on Monday but didn’t have a good 45 minutes and was an unused sub in the 2-0 win against Hull on Tuesday night.

If Nketiah does stay, it solves a very big problem for Leeds.

The club would have to replace him if he was to go back to Arsenal and it would be very hard to find a striker as good as Nektiah who is willing to play second fiddle to Patrick Bamford.

Bamford is undoubtedly the number one striker at the club. Leeds need a quality backup in case of injury or if Bamford hits the sort of drought he did earlier in the season when he went 10 without scoring.

Nketiah is a goal-scorer and we’ve no doubt that he will play a major part in pushing Leeds over the line for promotion in the second half of the season if he stays.

Arsenal interim manager Freddie Ljungberg dubbed him “the future of this club” and added, “When he has had his chance he scores goals and that’s what he is about”.

Leeds fans know this from the start of the season when he looked dangerous every time he came on.

He needs to rediscover that form and he needs to stay at Leeds.
