MOT View: Leeds receive major boost as Liam Cooper sits out Scotland clash v Serbia

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has not enjoyed the best of starts to his fairytale return to the Premier League.

The Whites defender finally got back to the top-flight more than 10 years after he first appeared there with Hull City as a teenager.

Cooper missed the first game of the season at Liverpool, and also missed the win at Aston Villa with injury problems that aren’t that common in his game.

One common theme though is his poor record when away with Scotland.

The last two times he has been away with the Scots, he has returned to Thorp Arch with injury problems – not good for Leeds or Marcelo Bielsa.

Whites fans will have been biting their fingernails at the sight of Cooper once again being called up by Steve Clark, but our minds have been put at rest for now.

Usually, seeing our skipper on the bench would be worrying, but when it’s for Scotland, we consider that a big boost. That is exactly what happened in Thursday night’s crunch clash against Serbia.

Cooper has endured too many injuries this season, and going up against Aleksandar Mitrovic for an entire 90 minutes may have caused another one.

The Leeds skipper labelled the Fulham talisman as “horrible” in the build-up to this one, and his elbow on Ben White proved that last season.

The last thing Bielsa needs right now is his captain returning with yet another injury, so this is a big boost for the Whites at this stage of the season.
