Leeds United were quiet in the January transfer window, with Marcelo Bielsa happy with his squad in the Premier League.
Phil Hay reported on Tuesday that the Whites are already planning for the summer window to strengthen their squad, with left-back where they want reinforcements.
Brest defender Romain Perraud appears to have sparked genuine interest from the Whites, who currently don’t have an out-and-out left-back in their squad.
Leeds must go all-out for Perraud.
As one fan mentioned on Twitter when reacting to the links, the 23-year-old has “easily” been one of the best in Ligue 1 and will spark plenty of interest.
Perraud does fit the bill perfectly for Leeds and Bielsa – a left-back who likes to bomb forward and deliver crosses from minute one to 90, something Luke Ayling has perfected in recent years.
Looking at his heatmap via WyScout, not only does the defender hold his position when defending, but he also can get forward and spend the majority of his time in the opposing half.
According to his graph, Perraud averages many crosses per 90 minutes, has high passing accuracy, and hardly loses the ball in each game.
Compare that to someone like Ezgjan Alioski, and you can see the difference.
The Macedonian doesn’t deliver as many crosses, or complete as many dribbles, with his offensive output something that needs to improve.
Alioski has become a real fan hero in recent years, but he is nothing more than a rotation player, and Perraud could come in and easily cement his place in the side if given the chance.
Perraud’s contract has recently been extended until 2025 by Brest, who were not prepared to entertain offers last month.
This must not deter the Whites, who must make sure to beat any competition that comes along for the 23-year-old across the summer.
