MOT View: Leeds 26y/o crashing down pecking order despite 8 starts in Premier League

Leeds United and Marcelo Bielsa aren’t known for making too many changes to their side in the Premier League.

The arrival of Raphinha at Elland Road has led to some reshuffling though, and Bielsa has found a way to cement his new signing in the squad.

The winger has started the past three games for the Whites, with Helder Costa being sacrificed to open up that space.

Costa has gone crashing down the pecking order.

Since being replaced at the break against Crystal Palace, the 26-year-old has only completed five minutes of action in a possible 270.

The Portuguese winger has featured for the under-23s more than the first-team and has even been replaced as an impact sub.

Bielsa has preferred Ian Poveda in recent games, and he has come off the bench in the games against Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea.

Why has Costa crashed down the order at Leeds?

After scoring twice and delivering one assist in the opening two Premier League games, the winger hasn’t been involved in a single goal since.

In games against Leicester and Palace, the 26-year-old failed to have a single shot, completed only 20% of his crosses and only won eight of 19 attacking duels according to WyScout.

The Portuguese ace clearly has the talent, as shown in his solo goal for the under-23s, but he must start showing that more often to break his way back into the Premier League side.
