MOT View: Leeds set to end year-long pursuit of Sean McGurk

Leeds United are on the verge of completing the signing of Wigan Athletic talent Sean McGurk this week.

The Mirror reported today that the Whites are set to seal a Bosman signing, which will reunite Joe Gelhardt with his former teammate.

Terms have been agreed and McGurk will be announced once his medical has been completed at Thorp Arch.

This is the end of a very long pursuit.

It has been a long-standing story and has actually taken over a year for the deal to be finally completed.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has reported on his personal Twitter account that some transfers taking longer than others – after sharing the link in July of last year.

“Some ayes take longer than others,” he said.

Sensational.

Leeds do this every single year.

As well as bringing in the big names such as Junior Firpo, the Whites bring in a number of different options for the academy.

Crycensio Summerville, Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood all arrived at Thorp Arch last summer, and have made big names for themselves in the under-23s.

Marcelo Bielsa is always watching closely, and that has led to opportunities in the first team, something that McGurk will be wanting to replicate.

The Whites and Victor Orta wouldn’t have wasted a year pushing for this deal to go through if the former Liverpool talent if wasn’t backed to have a huge future.

We can’t wait for the announcement, our fourth of the summer already, as we carry on strengthening the entire club.

Getting this one over the line could release Orta to concentrate on another senior signing, who is next? It’s heating up.
