MOT View: Leeds senior trio set for huge week to bounce back from Palace disappointment

We’ve just started the final international break of 2020 and Leeds United could not really have gone into it in a worse way.

It all started off so well for the Whites but the true unpredictable nature of the Premier League is finally starting to show with Crystal Palace hammering Marcelo Bielsa’s side 4-1 at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

It was a tough watch as Leeds didn’t really impress and were denied what should have been a goal by Patrick Bamford due to a dodgy VAR offside decision.

But the woes of playing in London will be put to the back of the minds of some Leeds players over the coming days – no more so than Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Liam Cooper.

While Leeds have other players on international duty this week and next, none have bigger matches to play than those three senior players as all three will be playing in Euro 2021 play-off matches on Thursday.

Dallas’ Northern Ireland play against Slovakia in Belfast, Cooper’s Scotland meet Serbia in Belgrade and Alioski’s North Macedonia face Georgia in Tbilisi.

All are one-off matches and the winners will qualify for next year’s European Championships across the continent.

We’re all going to be cheering on Northern Ireland, North Macedonia and Scotland so we can see as many Leeds players in the Euros next year. Yes, cheering on Scotland might be tough but Cooper really deserves this shot after all the brilliant work he’s put in at Elland Road over the years.

Scotland haven’t qualified for a major tournament since the World Cup in France in 1998 while North Macedonia have not qualified for anything since breaking away from Yugoslavia in 1991.

Northern Ireland, on the other hand, reached the knock-out stages of the last European Championships in France in 2016.

Dallas played all four of Northern Ireland’s matches in that tournament and even assisted one of the goals in their 2-0 win over Ukraine in the group stages.

Let’s hope Dallas gets another chance to shine on the big stage and that as many Leeds player as possible join him.

We wish Stuart, Liam and Gjanni all the best for this week.

In other Leeds United news, an agent has confirmed Leeds wanted this striker in the summer.
