Leeds United are more aware than most clubs when it comes to recognising how useful the loan market can be.

The Whites have enjoyed great success with the likes of Ben White and Jack Harrison in recent seasons, and you wouldn’t bet against them dipping their toe back into that part of the transfer market at some point this summer.

In fact, one name they are already being linked with is that of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Leeds United

According to Football.London, the Blues are keen for the 20-year-old to pick up Premier League experience this season having enjoyed successful loan spells with both Swansea City and Charlton Athletic last term.

Leeds are one of several clubs being linked with him, but the midfielder showed more than enough quality in the Championship to suggest that he is a player worth fending off competition for.

As well as seven assists in 21 matches, he also registered more dribbles, more interceptions, and a higher shot accuracy per game than Matheus Klich this season, as per Wyscout.

And that’s not to mention his eye for the spectacular.

Take his goal against Derby County last October, for example.

Gallagher picks up the ball around 30 yards out with options around him.

The youngster not only has the confidence to take on the shot from there, but he also has the necessary talent to fire an unstoppable effort right into the top corner.

The ball is still higher than the crossbar even as it passes the goalkeeper, and the venomous dip at the last second not only shows the quality of the strike, but reiterates how unstoppable it is.

Really, it’s the less spectacular stuff that makes Gallagher such a talent.

Above is his pass map from the play-off semi-final against Brentford.

In the highest pressure match of the season, when most of his teammates failed to deliver and his side slumped to a 3-1 defeat, Gallagher still managed to misplaced just three of his 41 passes – a completion rate of 93%.

As a point of reference, Kalvin Phillips’ pass completion rate last season was 84.6%.

In short, the Chelsea starlet is a well-rounded prospect capable of dictating play and turning games on their head with moments of magic.

Who wouldn’t want a player like that in their side?
