MOT View: Leeds may have to kiss goodbye to reported target after double whammy update
Leeds United could have quite the battle on their hands if they are to land reported target Emiliano Buendia this summer.
The Whites have emerged as potential suitors for the Norwich City playmaker ever since Read Norwich suggested they had made enquires about him last month.
With the Canaries relegated, and our promotion on the brink of happening, a closed season raid made a decent amount of sense – especially considering Buendia’s admirable tally of seven Premier League assists this season.
But following the latest update on the player’s future, the Whites could well be facing a difficult task if they wish to land him in the coming weeks.
In truth, it’s actually something of a double whammy.
Firstly, the player himself has revealed to Sky Sports that he is “happy” at Carrow Road.
The 23-year-old told the broadcaster :”Everyone helped me here since the beginning.
“I have a contract here and I hope the club, the team and the fans get back to the Premier league as seen as possible.
“We have to be focused to finish the season well, not thinking about next season or each player in himself. Now we have to finish, we have a game tomorrow and one more at Carrow Road.”
And as if that wasn’t enough, Sky are also reporting that both Atletico Madrid and Valencia are keen on the player.
Obviously, if we do go up this summer, you would like to think that our status and increased financial capability would give us a decent amount of pulling power in the transfer market, but even taking those factors into consideration, a bidding war with a giant of Atletico’s stature could get very expensive, very quickly.
Buendia has played in Spain before, and if he decides that he fancies a return, that could be game over.
Of course, nothing is written in stone, and anything could happen between now and the transfer window shutting, but this could well be one prospective swoop that we have to kiss goodbye to.
