MOT View: Leeds can have close look at English centre-mid reportedly on radar today

Leeds United welcome Reading to Elland Road today (Saturday) as they aim to build on the momentum gained in the last two matches to strengthen their bid for automatic promotion.

One player who may be under the microscope this weekend is Reading midfielder Andy Rinomhota after he was linked with a move to West Yorkshire before the January transfer window.

Football Insider reported in December that Marcelo Bielsa had been impressed by Rinomhota, 22, after Leeds last played against Reading.

It was understood that Rinomhota was someone who Leeds were looking at possibly signing in January but, if not, he would be on their radar in the summer transfer window too.

Rinomhota was named as Reading’s player of the year last season and has continued to impress this term for the Berkshire club.

The central midfielder, who was born in Leeds, has made 32 appearances in all competitions this term, scored one goal and supplied one assist.

He is the more defensive-minded of Reading’s three midfielders, with John Swift and Ovie Ejaria doing most of the attacking work between them.

Kalvin Phillips is bound to attract attention in the summer after playing so well for Leeds since Bielsa’s arrival in 2018 and so a new defensive midfielder could be something that the Argentine will need.

Even if Phillips stays, it’s not as if there is a lot of depth in that part of the squad and Adam Forshaw’s injury woes could mean that he struggles to get into Bielsa’s plans, regardless of division.

Rinomhota is a good young player who has already wowed Bielsa so there’s every chance that he’ll be a target in the summer.

This match against Reading today could be the final chance Bielsa gets to take a close look at the Madejski ace.

In other Leeds United news, this match is perfect for one Leeds player to silence his critics.
