Leeds United defender Ezgjan Alioski turned in a concerning performance in North Macedonia’s 1-0 win over Georgia in Thursday’s European qualifier.
The 28-year-old played the full 90 minutes at left-back as his country qualified for its first-ever major tournament due to Goran Pandev’s second-half goal.
It was a historic night for his country but the Leeds man wasn’t at his best against Georgia which will be a concern for Whites fans ahead of the return of the Premier League.
The stats show the North Macedonian was far from his best on Thursday.
Only 47% of Alioski’s total actions were successful against Georgia meaning more than half of anything he attempted was unsuccessful, as per Wyscout.
His passing wasn’t great as he registered a passing accuracy of only 61% which is some way below the 72.9% accuracy he has been averaging this season. Also, of four attempted long passes Alioski completed none.
Going forward the 28-year-old was largely ineffective as he didn’t manage to get a shot away and only 20% of his attempted crosses were successful.
Defensively Alioski was slightly better though he still underperformed compared to his usual standard. He won 53% of his defensive duels which is slightly less than his season average of 56.3%.
The Leeds man also committed three fouls which is more than the 1.38 fouls he has given away per game this season.
However, one stat does stand out in Alioski’s favour. The North Macedonian registered a 100% dribble success rate. This stat is slightly skewed by the fact he only attempted one dribble but it is still something to be pleased about.
He also made five interceptions against Georgia which is more than the 2.91 interceptions he has been averaging per 90 minutes this season.
Thursday night wasn’t Alioski’s finest hour even if it was a historic one for his country and he will need to recover his best form before Leeds’ next Premier League game against Arsenal.
In other Leeds United news, this player dazzles for Leeds but failed to shine as bright in an international victory this week.
