MOT View: How does Kalvin Phillips stack up to his England rivals?
Kalvin Phillips has been tipped as a future England star and some quarters were even calling for him to get a place in the Euro 2020 squad this summer.
That seemed like it would come too soon for him – but that was before the finals were postponed by a year.
They now play out in the summer of 2021 and that could mean that Phillips gets over the last hurdle standing between him and Gareth Southgate – playing in the Championship.
Leeds are on the brink of promotion but that too is now up in the air with the Championship currently suspended and no hint as to when it will return.
One thing we’re pretty sure about is that it will conclude one way or another before 2021.
It’s highly likely Leeds will get promoted. If not, it’s highly likely that Phillips will leave for a Premier League side. There were plenty after him last summer before he signed a new contract at Leeds.

Given that, we think he’s a shoo-in for the Euros. And that’s not just because of our pro-Leeds stance, but because he stacks up brilliantly against his Premier League rivals – Harry Winks, Jordan Henderson and Declan Rice.
The biggest thing in his favour is that he doesn’t have a weakness in his game.
If you look at the numbers from WyScout above, he’s either leading or second in every category.
If you want to nit-pick, the one failing he has is a propensity to lose his cool and put in a rash challenge.
That saw him miss four games for Leeds United this season and he was banned for three games after a terrible challenge in the QPR game.
That’s the one thing he needs to get out of his game – it’s the last thing that Southgate will want to see in a crucial Euro 2021 knockout game.
Aside from that, there’s no reason why he can’t be a leading contender for a slot in Southgate’s side.
