MOT View: David Healy praise for Charlie Allen proves Leeds could have sealed major coup
Leeds United recently confirmed the signing of the highly-rated forward Charlie Allen from Linfield in Northern Ireland.
The Whites confirmed that Allen is initially set to link up with the under-18s, although there is a clear gap in the under-23s for him to exploit.
Allen has featured at youth level for Northern Ireland and was involved in Linfield’s squad for their Champions League qualifiers recently.
If there is one man who knows what it takes to succeed at Elland Road, it’s Allen’s former manager David Healy, and he had many positives to say.
“Charlie is very good,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“You always try and be careful with young players that you don’t label them, you don’t say he’s similar to him, or he’s got this or that attribute.
“He’s a great kid who will hopefully thrive in the environment of Leeds United. He wants to learn, can play in two or three different positions along the front.
“I’m hoping, in time, in and around the youth ranks and moving up over the next couple of years that he’ll be a good addition to Leeds United Football Club.”
Healy made 117 appearances for Leeds, and was involved in 37 goals during that time – the most he managed at any club he ever played for.
Allen will be turning up to the Whites with all of the advice needed to succeed from his former manager, and being involved in that many goals at Elland Road would be a dream at this moment.
The glowing praise from Healy clearly highlights just how much of a major coup this could be for Leeds, if not now, especially in the future.
