MOT View: Everton injury blow is bad news for Leeds United

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Jordan Pickford will miss Everton’s trip to Leeds United this week which is a blow to both sides.

Speaking in Tuesday’s press conference ahead of Wednesday’s tie, Ancelotti explained that Pickford would be missing the trip to Elland Road and stated that Robin Olsen would start in goal.

In all honesty, this is a bigger blow for Leeds than it is for Everton as England’s number one has looked back to his old complacent self in recent weeks.

At the weekend, the Toffees lost 2-0 to a Newcastle side that we easily dispatched just a few days before.

With the Blues 1-0 down in second-half injury time, Callum Wilson ran through on goal and one on one with Pickford.

This is how Pickford decided to defend his goal.

The keeper gives the Newcastle striker most of the goal to aim at and of course Wilson punished this error and wrapped up a much needed 2-0 win.

This mistake went under the radar but Pickford essentially gave Wilson 70% of the goal to aim at which is incredibly poor goalkeeping.

This mistake followed his absolute clanger just a few days before as he failed to stop a speculative Youri Tielemans shot in the second half against Leicester City.

Clearly, Pickford should be able to make a simple save here as Tielemans’ shot isn’t hit with much venom or accuracy.

It’s straight at the keeper yet he still manages to make a hash of it and push the ball into his own net.

These mistakes were part and parcel of Pickford’s game earlier this season and this led to him being dropped for a few games.

Just imagine what Patrick Bamford, Jack Harrison and Raphinha could do against this Everton team when Pickford is in this awful form.

It would be a field day.

There is no doubt that the Whites attackers will be gutted that they can’t have a go against the out of form goalkeeper on Wednesday.

Instead, they will face a keeper with something to prove as he looks to cement the number one spot at Goodison Park.

Make no mistake, this injury news is a bigger blow to us than it is to Everton.
