MOT View: Bielsa not impressed by prominent U23 player, Jan move needed to kick-start career

Ryan Edmondson has been turning heads for the Leeds United Under-23s for a long time, now.

However, while other Under-23 stars have made the jump into the first team, it hasn’t happened for Edmondson.

That must be very frustrating for the 18-year-old, who made his senior debut at the age of just 17.

Since Bielsa has arrived, Edmondson has only made one further cameo appearance and he hasn’t made the bench once this season.

With Eddie Nketiah looking like he’s going to be recalled from his loan by Arsenal, this was the time, if any, for Edmondson to make the jump up.

However, according to the Athletic, “Bielsa is is unsold on Ryan Edmondson, the most prominent under-23 forward at Thorp Arch”.

Bielsa always looks inwards whenever possible. If Kiko Casilla gets banned after his hearing for racist abuse, the word is that Illan Meslier will step up and take the gloves.

However, that ‘s not going to happen with Edmondson. Leeds are going to look for a replacement if Nketiah is recalled and that likely means no game time for Edmondson for the rest of the season.

If that’s the case, a January loan move would surely make the most sense?

Edmondson has done everything he can with the Leeds Under-23s. If that’s not enough for Bielsa then he needs to go and get competitive football elsewhere – either to add to his arsenal for when he comes back to Leeds, or as a springboard for a permanent move in the future.

It would be a huge shame if Edmondson doesn’t get a chance at Leeds but the club is moving forward and eying life in the Premier League.

If Bielsa doesn’t fancy Edmondson, he needs to find a manager who does.
