MOT View: Bielsa must ask young Leeds ace to step up after major pre-match development v Cardiff

Young Leeds United star Tyler Roberts has shown in fits and bursts what he’s capable of but it’s now time for him to step up and show he can deliver consistently.

Marcelo Bielsa revealed on Thursday that both Pablo Hernandez and Jean-Kevin Augustin are out of the game today.

Hernandez is back in training on Wednesday and could be in contention for the game against Fulham but it’s a real blow for the Cardiff game.

The prognosis for Augustin is far less clear and he could well leave when his loan expires on June 30.

That puts 21-year-old Roberts square in the frame to play a major role from the off in Wales as Leeds prepare to finish the job and get out of the Championship. Hopefully for good.

Much has been written about Patrick Bamford so we don’t need to rake over old coals.

Suffice it to say that every Leeds fan will be behind him on Sunday.

However, teams need back-up in front of goal at the best of times and these are far from that.

Marcelo Bielsa will need to use his squad and with Augustin out Roberts will surely be the player he looks to.

A Leeds without Hernandez is a weaker one but Roberts could be the perfect replacement at the right time.

He was on fire before the lockdown with two goals against Hull. And he’s been described as “dynamite” by Leeds coaching staff in training at Thorp Arch in the past few weeks.

This is Roberts’ time and we think he could finally start to show his true potential, starting today in Wales.
